As family and friends mourn the second student suicide in the wake of the school shooting last year at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the deadliest high school shooting in United States history, our guest today, Nicoelle Cohen talks about her project of “Healing Hearts” to honor and remember her fellow MSD students and other victims of gun violence.
Nicoelle graduated Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School with the class of 1995. She is an artist and an alumna of Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. As an artist, she had the urge to use her visual voice after the school shooting at MSD in Parkland and really wanted to do something to spread LOVE. On February 20, 2018 she posted a call on Facebook for handmade fabric hearts to help spread LOVE in a time of such deep sadness.
This is her legacy.
